URGENT: Polavaram (embankments in Orissa and Chhattisgarh) proposal before EAC on Feb 16-17, 2009
The agenda notes of the 23rd meeting of MoEF's Expert Appraisal Committee for River Valley and Hydroelectric Projects to be held on Feb 16-17, 2009 says that the committee will be considering Polavaram Multipurpose Project in Andhra Pradesh by Govt of AP for the proposal for the construction of the embankments to protect the lands in Orissa and Chhattisgarh from going under submergence due to the proposed Polavaram project
Forward this to others who may be concerned and also to media, you also send in letters to the MoEF on these lines

The logic of the market seems to have penetrated everywhere. Imagine a government department, saying that it cannot share data, freely, because it is a source of revenue!
Luckily, the Central Information Commission has directed the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to review IMD policy and make a written submission within one month "about the arrangements that will be made for free access and dissemination of" district wise rainfall data for at least the last five years. The IMD was refusing to make this basic information public on the plea that they earn revenue by selling a lot of such information.
